Family Child Care:
My Family Child Care is a home away from home. I believe children should have fun. My program offers a warm, caring and safe environment for your child(ren). For everyone’s good health, this day care is a smoke-free and an air conditioned home. Attention will be paid to providing a variety of both indoor and outdoor activities, adequate rest time, nutritious meals, snacks and drinks to enhance the growth of each child. Each day all children are provided a well balanced curriculum which enhances learning and play. Although children may not go home with a project or craft each day, because learning is also through play. Family child care is about families. It nurtures families as well as children. Family child care tends to be flexible and relaxed.
Communication & Respect:
Communication is Very Important!
Please call me any time, day or evenings with any questions or concerns about your child(ren). Please discuss with me any changes, problems or special events, e.g. changes in a child’s home life to include anything from biting, behavior changes, lack of sleep, divorce, death, etc. I would like to provide the best possible care and this helps me better understand their moods. The first week or two of child care can be traumatic for some children ( and parents). It is not unusual for some children to become quite tearful. However, it has been me experience that the children calm down quickly once the parents leave. During this transition period feel free to phone later in the day to put your mind at ease. Please keep in mind that I have an open door policy for parents to visit the child care through out the day. However, I do ask that discretion be used during rest time as not to disturb this portion of our day. Caring for children is my choice. I enjoy children-playing with them, talking to them, teaching them is the most rewarding and meeting their needs and showing them the love they need. Courtesy and respect for others and for property are some of the important values I teach the children. Watching a child grow and learn is the most wonderful and rewarding part of my profession! I treat people with respect and expect the same from others. I will never allow one person- be it a child or an adult- to be disrespectful to anyone or to anything in my home. When children need their behavior corrected in this regard, I attempt to get them to see that they have made a decision to be disrespectful-whether it involve hurt feelings or damaging property. I try to get the kids to take responsibility for their behavior. In my day care home, no one is better than anyone else. All children (and parents) are created equal.

Illness:
State Regulations: All children must properly be immunized- including the chicken pox vaccine, before entering a family child care home. All medical papers will be updated yearly. In the interest of all children, it is best to keep a child home if they have any of the following conditions: a contagious disease, a fever of 101 or higher,
Vomiting, diarrhea, head lice, conjunctivitis (pink eye or cold in the eye), flu, severe cough, rapid breathing or labored breathing, severe cold, skin rash, or any illness that requires excessive amounts of individual adult attention. Coughs are sometimes contagious. If child had a green or yellow runny nose or green diarrhea than this is a sign of an infection and they must stay home at least 24 hrs.(very contagious) As a parent, you know best when it is more appropriate for your child to be comforted by you at home than to expose the entire day care, where is may go back and forth, from child to child. Pink eye/conjunctivitis is very contagious, if your child had this he/she is not allowed back in day care for 48 hrs after which their antibiotic has been started at home, no earlier. State of Ct, regulations says any form of eye discharge is extremely contagious and needs a Physician’s attention. Also I will need a doctors note stating your child is no longer contagious and is able to return to day care. Each and every time I will need a note from your physician. When your child is sick, you should notify me by 6:30a.m. or the evening before is best. In the event or prolonged illness of either your child or myself, we will discuss other arrangements that are best in all our interest if that situation should arise. When your child becomes ill in my home, I will notify you as soon as possible to discuss the treatment and or/immediate pick-up from day care. Your child must be picked up within 1 hour of my phone call. I will administer medications only with all the proper forms filled out by your physician each and every time. You agree to accept and trust my judgment of how sick your child had become while in my care. If your child is seen by a doctor for an illness, he/she must return with a note from your doctor indicating the type of illness, expected terms of illness, medications he/she is on and if the illness is contagious. If your child begins taking an antibiotic, he/she must stay home for at least 24 hours after the medications has been started. As a part of my contract you agree to sign all medical information and permission forms for your child(ren) and I will keep the forms accessible.
(st. of Ct regs) If I have to notify you that your child is sick and needs to be picked up, your child will be removed from the group until he/she is picked up.
Medication Administration:
I am certified in Medication Administration which is a State Law in Ct. for day care providers. I will only give medications if absolutely necessary. Most medications can be administered at home in the morning and at bedtime. Under state law of Ct. for day care, I can not give your child his/her first dose of medication. This must be done at home. In order to administer any medications to your child all forms must be filled out specifically by your physician prior to administering medication. Each prescription must have it’s own form filled out entirely. All medications must match form exactly. This means if your physician writes a prescription for a medication and at the pharmacy you get a generic brand, that must be written on the form. I can only administer what your physician writes on the form. Each child must have his/her own prescription bottle with his/her name on it as well as his/her own measuring cup/spoon, which has to have your child’s name on it.( on spoon/meds.) regarding if sibling is on the same meds. This pertains to over the counter medications too. Like cough meds. Each child must have their own. (No Sharing allowed-by State of Ct Regs.) If your child is taking pills, then only bring in the required amount for one day and must be in it’s original container, (no baggies) with your child’s name on it. All medication bottles or containers must have a child proof cap. Expiration dates must be correct. You can ask your physician to split your prescription in two for day care and home. You can also tell your physician that your child is in day care and they can prescribe medications for mornings and evenings only, at home. (very important-most can and should) When filling out papers for day care your physician must be specific with instruction. (must be taken when…..or only take if…etc) If your child throws up or spits up the medication after it is given to him/her, I cannot re-administer meds. Until their next dose is due and you will be notified immediately, or if your child is throwing up, than he/she is too sick to be in day care. I will not administer meds. To a child who refuses. This is not my responsibility and I will not make a child cry. You will be notified immediately if your child refuses it. Again it is very important that all forms be filled out entirely and properly for each child and for each prescription. Please never leave meds. In a diaper bag or school back pack. All meds. Must be given to me as you arrive, These are the State of Ct. Guidelines(law). It’s a must in the State of Ct. Regulations-No Forms-No Meds!
*New- Covid-19:
In case of covid-19 exposure, contact or illness, your child must remain at home for a quarantine period of at least 14 days. Your child may not return until a negative covid-19 test has been administered and a doctors note indication as such and clearing your child to return to daycare. If you have more than one child enrolled in the daycare, all children must remain home during the 14 day quarantine period and may only return if they have not developed any symptoms associated with Covid and also must have a negative result. If you “the parents” become positive , your child(ren) must also quarantine for 14 days.
If myself or my husband test positive for covid-19, I will need shut down immediately and quarantine for 14 days or longer until we both get a negative result. I will will also contact the CT Department of Health about the exposure. If the daycare is forced to close because of my family having a positive result tuition may be considered to dropped to 50% after the first week until reopened. But if closed because of contracted Covid through a daycare child or family then tuition may or may not drop 50%.
If any member of your household travels out of the state of CT to any state that requires a 14 day quarantine period, You Must quarantine upon your return. A negative result and doctors note Must be acquired. If a doctor allows you to return sooner with a quick negative results then you may return sooner but only after 72 hrs of returning to CT.
I am following Ct regulations and Office of Early Childhood Regulations may change as well. If this happens you will be made aware of them.
Temperature Checks are no longer required but I am continuing to take temperatures twice daily. Be aware that temp over 100. your child must stay home or be sent home.
A visual inspection of each child is performed upon arrival for signs of illness which could include cough, flushed cheeks, rapid or difficult breathing, fatigue or extreme fussiness. If there are nay of signs of illness the child will not be allowed to attend daycare for the day and may return after 24 hrs without symptoms and medication.
If any members of your household travel out of state to an area within the mandatory quarantine order, you will be asked to quarantine for 14 days upon your return. A negative test and doctors note could allow you to return earlier, would prefer at least 72 hrs after returning from that area.
As this is changing daily, regulations forth from the Office of Early Childhood may change as well. If this happens, you will be notified ASAP.
*NEW*-Pandemic Clause
In response to Covid-19, or other future Pandemics,I have decided to update our tuition policy. If you choose to keep your child at home, tuition is still due in order to maintain your enrollment space in the daycare. If your child’s absence from childcare due to his/her having Covid, and continues longer than a 4 week period, at that time, tuition may decrease to 50% of your normal rate and still maintain your enrollment. If, while keeping your child at home, a period of two weeks passes with failure to maintain tuition payment, this will result in termination of care.
Day Care Procedures:
Parking:
You may park in the driveway or in front of the house. When pulling into the driveway please park on one side or the other, not in the middle, so others can pull in too. Please do not park in my driveway if you have anything leaking from your car that may mess or damage my driveway for this can cause injury to a child or an adult if he/she slips and falls. (this includes oil, antifreeze, etc) Also cones will be placed at the end of the driveway if we are playing out front.
Please Do Not turn around in the neighbors driveway, I have had a complaint about that.
Morning Drop-Off/Entering:
Just walk right in. There is no need to ring my doorbell or knock on my door. It is much easier for me if I do not have to answer the door. Children and parents must come into the house to drop-off your child. You cannot, under any circumstances, drop off your child(ren) in my driveway or on my doorstep. If you do so the police and DCF will be notified and you will have to pick your child(ren) up immediately from my day care and your contract will terminated immediately.
Late Drop-Off:
Please call me if you going to be late or if your child(ren) is going to be absent. If you know the night before that your chil(ren) will not be here, please call me then so that I may plan out my day.
Pick-Up:
When picking up your child(ren), again just walk in and find us at play in the day care room. If we are out back, just walk on through the room and walk to the play area. Come on in and catch the children at play. When picking up your child(ren), your child Must stay with you and is not allowed to leave my house without you. This also means he/she cannot open the front door until you are ready to leave. We do not want pinched fingers or other children trying to get out. Your child(ren) may not, under any circumstances, leave the house and go outside or into your vehicle. This is not allowed and will not be tolerated. When we ar outback playing and it’s pick-up time, your child(ren) will stay in the backyard until we have finished talking and is not allowed to go out front by his/herself, ever!
Late Pick-Up:
Please do not surprise me with late pick-up. (I have plans too). I must receive a phone call as soon as you know that you will be late. If you are a part timer, I can allow late pick-up only if an incoming child is absent. Please remember that the state requires that I never allow a situation to develop where I am out of compliance regarding head count, no matter how good your excuse is for being late.(the state allows no excuses from me). If it is after your scheduled pick-up time and I have not heard from you, and cannot get a hold of you by phone, then I will call your emergency contact persons. There is a late pick-up fee which will be expected when you pick up. If you pick up after 4:30 p.m. without notifying me, the late fee will be enforced and the fee is $1.00 per minute you are late. (4:31, the late fee begins)
Who Can Pick-Up:
Only Authorized individuals over the age of 18 yrs, will be allowed to pick up your child(ren). If you are unable to pick-up your child(ren), you must call and tell me who will pick-up. I will ask the person for some identification. (a must: please notify all persons that I need a picture ID.) Your child(ren) will not be released to them even if they are on the emergency list, without ID. If a designated person comes to pick up and I have not received notification from you, your child(ren) will not be released until you can be contacted.
Emergencies:
I will 1st call 911 and then parents immediately. If an emergency occurs with your child(ren) or myself, you will pick up your child(ren) immediately, or make arrangements for some authorized person to pick up.
Fire Drills:
Fire Drills are conducted quite frequently. The State of Ct. required that four drills (quarterly) be done within the year period, but I conduct them much more frequent. On every child’s first day of day care, we will always conduct a fire drill. Drills/dates are listed in the day care room on a fire drill chart dating back to day 1. Each child receives a certification of participation each time we have a fire drill so that parents are aware of the drill. Children also watch a fire safety video. This is the same video that was sent home with your child(ren) upon signing the paperwork. Suggestions: This should be done at home as well so that you and your child(ren) know what to do and where to meet in case of a fire. Very Important.
Mealtime:
Breakfast is the responsibility of the parents and a very important part of the day. This should be served at home. I will provide a morning snack around 9:00a.m., lunch is at 11:00 a.m. and afternoon snack is at 3:15 p.m. If your child(ren) is going to arrive at mealtime, feeding him/her is your responsibility before you arrive. Infants will be fed whenever necessary. Under state regulations I am not allowed to give infants his/her first taste of foods or formulas. This first everything must be done at home first. I always suggest it be done twice before being sent to me. Therefore we would most likely know thif there is going to be an allergic reaction to the foods. A great time to try something new would be over the weekend. Allergens can be very serious and dangerous. Everyone is served at the same time(infant excpetion) No one is forced to eat anything. However, when a child expresses a dislike for food, I do not prepare something different for him/her. Children may choose not to eat, but no more food will be served until the next snack time. Children always seem to eat whatever I serve for lunch. If others are eating, they will too. I use mealtime to teach good manners. The children are required to sit at the table until everyone is done eating. When one child gets up and is allowed to run around all other children tend to stop eating and claim not top be hungry anymore. Therefore, I ask that fast eaters sit back and keep us company. If your child(ren) is on a special diet, you will be required to bring in those food.
Food:
If your child(ren) is munching on something or having a sipper cup in the car on the way to my house, please keep it in the car unless you have enough to share with the entire day care. (which is always welcomed) Nothing upsets children more than one allowed to bring in food that is not offered to everyone.
And no candy or gum allowed.
Religious Restriction:
Please let me know if you have some religious restrictions regarding food or anything else.
Clothing:
What To Wear:
Because of the wide range of activities provided I ask that your child(ren) wear inexpensive clothing. It is expected that clothing will be soiled. Although I use smocks when painting, I cannot guarantee that the clothing will remain paint-free. Children have the most fun when they dresses for play.
Girls-Please do Not send in Sparkly shoes of any kind. The sparkles fall off and get stuck in my carpet.
Outdoor Clothing:
The children play outside daily (weather permitting) and should be dressed accordingly. If one child arrives without an appropriate jacket, the whole group will be forced to stay indoors. Please be considerate of the whole group when selecting outdoor clothing especially for spring and fall. When snow is on the ground I ask that you provide snow pants, boots, a hat and mittens. (an extra pair to leave at day care would be best).
Extra Clothing:
Please bring a bag of extra clothes on the first day you start. I need a complete change of clothes, including socks and underwear. In addition I ask that you pack a sweater and slippers for fall and winter. If clothes are soiled they are rinsed and sent home. Please return a clean set the following morning. If a child is potty training, extra, extra clothes are required, at least 2 sets,(training pants, pants and socks.)
Nap Time:
Procedures: All children under the age of 5 are required to take a nap according to the State of Ct Regulations. This provides a much needed break for the child and helps to ensure a happy evening at your home. Little ones sleep in porta-cribs and older ones sleep on cots. They each get a sleep buddy (stuffed animal or doll). If your child requires a special sleep buddy you may send it in with him/her each day or send one that stays here in their bed. As a child awakens, I engage them in quiet play or I have them watch a movie or tv. This allows all the other children to finish their naps in peace and quiet. Kindergartners are given a choice of resting or watching tv, a movie or computer time, or very quiet play time. Nap time is between the hours of 12:00p.m. and 2:00 p.m. This nap helps relieve tension and tiredness that may interfere with the child’s interactive play. Children that just don’t want to nap anymore will have a rest period only.
Infant Naptime:
Infants obviously have their nap schedule whenever need. An infant’s Sleep Position is very important. We must discuss this prior to signing my contract. The state requires that All Infants be placed on their backs-:Back to Sleep”. An infant must always be placed on their backs when napping. Once a child ia able to roll themselves onto their stomachs I will reposition the child. I can only do this for some time. Once the child continuously rolls over during nap, the child will remain in that position. Parents are required to sign an Infant Sleep Form prior to signing my contract. If your Pediatrician states that your child Must Sleep differently than a written and signed form, by your pediatrician, must be sent to day care prior to child’s first day. You will receive information on “Back to Sleep” and review a short video before your child’s first day at day care.
Behavior/Discipline:
Your child will be encouraged to use sharing and caring manners during play time and proper table manners. Any unacceptable behavior will first be corrected and then by redirecting your child to another activity. If that doesn’t work than your child will be removed from the group. Once your child is in “Time-Out” I will always sit down and talk to him/her about what happened, why it happened and why it should not happen again. Any ongoing problems will be discussed between provider and parents so that we can work together. Likewise, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to bring it up. The sooner the better. A concerning period for all seems to be arrival and departure times. During the hours of child care, house rules apply whether parent is present or not. When parents pick up, their chil(ren) tend to put on an act for them. Some of the most frequent examples that come to mind would be: running, jumping on toys or yelling, crying and not listening, therefore ,breaking the rules. Safety is always a priority for me in caring for your child(ren). Let’s support one another and make this transition as easy as possible. Redirection and Time- Out is the only discipline used in my day care.
FaceBook:
Under No Circumstances is anyone allowed to speak badly about another child, family or my daycare on face book.
If this does occur, you will be Terminated Immediately. This is unacceptable and Will Not Be Tolerated.
Curriculum:
I incorporate a Preschool Curriculum into our daily activities for fun and to prepare the older children for school. Each month we concentrate on a different theme. I usually involve numbers, math, letters, themes, colors, shapes, cooking, science, games, music/dance, circle time, story time, computer time, flannel board stories, finger plays, puzzles, books, puppet shows, take home projects and crafts, holiday crafts, parent gifts, etc, in my monthly curriculum. After school children also love to make these projects even though they are geared towards preschoolers.
Field Trips/Summer Vacations/Transportation:
We go on many field trips throughout the year. We go during school vacations and all summer long. The parents get the summer agenda, for the week or a day ahead. Parents are required to pay for all the field trips. You will get a total of the trip or trips ahead of time.. All fees are do on that Thursday when tuition is due. Some trips are free. Some of the field trips we attend are: Pumpkin/apple picking, mini gulf, bowling, the parks, McDonalds play area and lunch, Adventure Land, Chuckie Cheese, the movies, library, book store and Library for story time, pony rides, zoo, feed the ducks, water park, trolley, etc. I transport all the children in my van. I have all necessary car seats needed. Parents are required to sigh a permission slip for the trips. This include walks off the premise. Parents are always welcome to join us!
Toys:
Policy: Children will have a much happier time if they are using my toys. Since toys brought from home are subject to many a struggle. I ask that you do not send them. I provide a variety of toys that are appropriate for each age and stage of your child’s development. If your child is unable to sleep without a special stuffed animal or blanket , then that’s fine, it will be placed in their bed upon entering my home. I am not responsible for breakage or replacement of toys brought from home. You are welcome to bring in movies for all to watch, just make sure you give it to me when you arrive so that I may keep it safe and I will return it to you when you pick up but I cannot be held responsible for any damage to your movies. If a toy is sent in and your child can not share, then it will be placed in his/her cubby and sent home, not to return again. If this is a concern then please save your movies for home.
Littering:
Littering is not allowed on my property!! That strongly includes cigarette butts. Do not leave these in my driveway or front yard. Small children love to put things in their mouths. I don’t smoke, nor does anyone in this household. I keep my house clean and also my yard, this includes my driveway. Please be considerate. Please notify any one who may pick up for you as well. Thanks You Very Much!
Potty Training:
When you feel your child is ready for toilet training, I ask that you begin this teaching at home first, for a while. I will follow through and encourage your child while in my care. Please keep in mind that the activity level here can distract your child from responding to the urge to use the potty, more so than at home. Therefore, I ask for you to bring lots of pull-ups. Pull-ups are required. I will not put a child in underpants until he/she can tell Me that he/she has to go potty. When your child starts this transition please be considerate enough to put your child in clothing that is very easy to remove quickly by him/her. It is in the child’s best interest and less accidents will occur when this can de done quickly. Please: No Belts, No Onesies, No to lots of buttons and snaps. Elastic pants are best, sweats or dresses for the girls. The quicker the easier and the quicker and easier your child will become trained.. Build Confidence!. This allows the child not to get disappointed when a accident occurs because he/she could not get that last button, snap or belt undone. The accomplishment is much greater when potty training is accomplished with ease. Lots of extra clothing is needed. I always have informational resources pertaining to many subjects. Please just ask. I will usually send home information when necessary upon entering a new stage. You will receive a potty training video as well.
Summer and Winter Fun:
Summer: Children love the outdoors! Sunscreen is recommended for each child in the summer.( a permission slip must be filled out before I may apply). This was we can all spend more time outside. Also bathing suits/towels are asked to be left at day care for those very hot days when we will be using wading pool or the sprinkler or my above ground pool. (another permission slip must be filled out).
Winter: Again, children love the outdoors! Snow! A snowsuit, boots, hat and mittens keep a child warm and happy when it’s cold outside.
We have our own hill next to the garage for sledding ( yes, another permission slip) when it snows. We also build snowman and snow forts. There are lots of fun activities we can do as long as Everyone is dressed for it. If one forgets, we must all stay indoors. (easiest to leave winter outdoor clothes here at day care) We do not go out in the snow every day, for if I have very small children here, it is not always possible, or if someone has a runny nose or a cold, we will not go out.
Holidays and Birthdays:
We celebrate all Holidays. The children enjoy having parties. Everybody has a Birthday Party here. It’s always a very special day. Sometimes I ask the parents to help, for example, at Halloween I ask you to send in their costumes, at Christmas we exchange gifts-the children pick one friends name out of a hat and you purchase a gift for that child (under $15,00) On birthdays parents are asked to bring in cupcakes for everyone.
At Christmas we have Santa Clause come to our "Annual Holiday Party."
Photographs:
I take many pictures of all the children at play during day care hours. I pass along many pictures to the families so that you can see what your child is doing at day care. I take many pictures of the children because we make many projects that require photos and this way I always have photos on hand. A signed permission slip is required. We have also been on tv and in the newspapers.
Donations:
Toy Donations are Always Accepted! I accept any and all donations made to my day care. Lots of children out grow their toys from year to year and I have all ages in my care who love to play with toys. So before you throw away those good toys, baby items or car seats, remember me and all the children her at Guylaine’s Playhouse Day Care who play with those toys. I update many day care items yearly. Day Care toys are used by many children so they wear much quicker which make donations a fabulous thing!! Thank You.
